Junior Brian James (Perkasie, PA) scored to give Widener a first-half lead, but the squad could not hold on in a 2-1 loss to Wesley at the Garnet Alumni Classic.
James got a free kick from 25 yards and buried it inside the right post in the 27th minute. It was his first goal of the season for the Pride (1-2).
The Wolverines (2-1) tied it in the 43rd minute on a breakaway goal from Frank Buffa. Kyle Long scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the 82nd minute, heading in a corner kick from Saidu Fofanah.
Senior Hamed Correa (Cali, Colombia) made eight saves for Widener. He had a great diving stop late in the opening half off Fofanah's shot and also robbed Fofanah in front just before the go-ahead marker.
Nick Talarico had three saves for Wesley.
James and freshman Drew Hilinski (Perkasie, PA) each were named to the all-tournament team.
Widener on Wednesday hosts Philadelphia Biblical at 4:00 pm.
