Men's Soccer Falls to Cabrini, 2-1

Freshman DJ DiPaola (Haverford, PA) scored his first career goal late in the first half to put Widener ahead, but the squad was unable to hold on in a 2-1 defeat to Cabrini at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

 

DiPaola took a pass from senior Max Bernhard (Coopersburg, PA) just outside the box and touched it passed goalkeeper Bryan Johnson to put the Pride (3-5-2) on top with less than four minutes left in the first half.

 

Cabrini countered with the tying goal by Steve Reynolds just 26 seconds into the second half.  Eric Collins, who assisted the first goal, scored the winning goal for the Cavaliers (8-2-1) in the 84th minute after receiving a pass from Justin McCall.

 

Senior Hamed Correa (Cali, Colombia) made three excellent saves in the second half for Widener to keep the game tied before yielding the go-ahead goal.

 

Widener travels to Williamsport, PA on Saturday for its Commonwealth Conference opener against Lycoming at 1:00 pm.
