Sophomore Natalie Gifford (Morton, PA) and senior Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) scored less than three minutes apart to eradicate a one-goal deficit and give Widener a 4-3 victory at DeSales in Center Valley, PA.
Gifford brought the Pride to a 3-3 tie with 13:44 remaining, netting her first goal of the season off Elliott's assist. Elliot provided Widener its first lead with 10:54 left, scoring her second goal of the season thanks to a feed from sophomore Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ).
Shannon Fien (Millville, NJ) and fellow junior Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ) each scored in the opening half for the Pride (4-1). Freshman Shelby Aaronson (Lumberton, NJ) assisted on the last tally for Widener, which ended with a 16-13 shots advantage that included 9-4 after intermission.
Amy Pulcini, Melissa Gilroy and Jamie Matthews scored for the Bulldogs (1-6).
Junior Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) ended with six saves and Scarpinato took six shots for the Pride.
Widener on Friday visits Muhlenberg for a 7:00 pm start.
