Field Hockey’s Strong Second Half Leads to Third Straight Victory, 3-1 Over Cabrini

Widener scored three goals in the second half of a 3-1 triumph over Cabini at Edith R. Dixon Field.

 

The Pride (3-0) notched 11 shots in a scoreless first half, but took just 1:29 into the second half to score the game's first goal.  Junior Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ)received a pass from senior Ellen Etzweiler (Landisville, PA) off a penalty corner for the goal.

 

Widener tallied two more times in the period.  Sophomore Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ), who notched the game-winner, was assisted by senior Brittany Dippolito (Pennsauken, NJ) to give the Pride the lead for good at 2-1.  Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) scored just 67 seconds later off a pass from fellow senior Jessica Gonzalez (Eastampton, NJ).

 

Junior Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) recorded the win, making six saves.

 

Cabrini (1-4) tied the game on a goal by Maura Gordon just 1:37 after Widener opened the scoring.  Vicky King made 10 saves for the Cavaliers.

 

Widener will host Eastern on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
