Freshman Lil Carney (Narbeth, PA) scored her team's first 14 points and ended with 19, pacing Widener to a 49-42 Commonwealth Conference victory over Lycoming at Schwartz Center.
Carney's run came during a 14-4 run over the first seven minutes, capped when she buried her second 3-pointer. She finished the opening half with those 14 points as the Pride (5-3, 2-0 CC) grabbed a 24-20 lead.
Widener netted the first 11 points of the second half spanning eight minutes for a 35-20 bulge. Freshman Francesca Lee (Hainesport, NJ) scored five points in the run and senior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) ended it with two free throws.
The Lady Warriors (1-6, 0-2) used an 8-1 run over just three minutes to move to 42-38 with 5:50 remaining, capped on a 3-pointer from Jessica Zerbee.
But Carney's layup with 3:11 left made it 44-38 and sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) added her own layup for an eight-point margin with 1:43 to play.
Tyler grabbed 11 rebounds to help Widener gain a comfortable 50-33 edge. Pritz had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Zerbee scored 12 points, Rebecca Leid had nine and Alicia Engler added eight for Lycoming, which shot only 25 percent (13-of-53) overall and 6-of-25 from 3-point range.
Widener on Thursday hosts Swarthmore in the “320 Challenge,” beginning at 7:00 pm.
