Women's Basketball Dealt 61-55 Loss at King's

(box score)

Junior Alex Held (Westminster, MD) scored 14 points and sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) had a double-double for Widener, which came up short in a 61-55 loss at King's in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Down 43-36 with 8:51 remaining, Widener (3-3) went on an 8-3 spurt to move to 46-44 with 5:41 remaining.  Held, who only played 19 minutes before fouling out, scored six points in that run and ended it on a layup.

But the Lady Monarchs (2-3) regained the momentum by netting five straight points for a 51-44 lead with 3:56 to play.  Megan Rigous capped the run on a critical 3-pointer following an offensive rebound.

Pritz made 1-for-2 from the stripe with 3:14 remaining for a 51-45 game, but Brittany Muscatell hit twice from the line seven seconds later for King's and an eight-point game.

Widener could get no closer than five the rest of the way, failing to take advantage of a 38-34 rebounding margin by committing 30 turnovers.

Pritz had 11 points and 10 rebounds with freshman Lil Carney (Narbeth, PA) dishing nine assists for the Pride, who limited the Lady Monarchs to a mere 31 percent (17-of-55) shooting.  For Pritz, it was her 10th career double-double.

The Lady Monarchs' outside shooting proved to be a factor as the squad hit 7-of-18 from beyond the arc, with Rigous nailing 3-of-7.  The Pride were 0-of-5 from 3-point range.

Muscatell scored 13 points, hitting 10-for-14 from the line, with Rigous and Julianna Lynott netting 12 points each for King's.

Widener on Wednesday hosts Arcadia as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 8:00 pm.
