Playing only a short drive from the hometown of senior Devan Green (Monroe Center, IL), Widener put up a strong effort against solid teams at the Elmhurst Invitational in Elmhurst, IL.
Widener (18-12) on Friday notched a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-18) over Greensboro before a 3-0 loss (22-25, 21-25, 23-25) to North Park. The Pride on Saturday were dealt a 3-0 setback (22-25, 22-25, 8-25) setback to a strong North Central squad and a 3-0 loss (18-25, 11-25, 7-25) to No. 11 Calvin.
Against Greensboro, sophomore Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) finished with 23 assists and senior Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, PA) had 10 kills. Freshman Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) had 13 digs and junior Erin Gravelle (Media, PA) closed with 11.
Versus North Park, freshman Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) had 20 kills and Ballew posted 32 assists. Freshman Chelsea Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) notched 17 digs and Spence ended with 16.
Against North Central, Green had nine kills and DiMaria finished with eight. Ballew amassed 19 assists, Gravelle had 16 digs and Spence added 11.
In the finale versus Calvin, Green had seven kills and Ballew totaled 16 assists.
