Volleyball Splits a Pair to Grab Second Place at Bomber Invitational

(vs. Ithaca) / (vs. Union-NY)

Freshman Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) posted 74 assists and 25 digs over two matches and junior Julieanne Gryn (Springfield, PA) totaled 48 digs for Widener, which grabbed second place at the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, NY.

Widener opened with a 3-1 victory (25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20) over host Ithaca in the semifinals.  However, the winning streak ended at six with a 3-1 loss (25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 21-25) to Union (NY) in the final.

Ballew against Ithaca recorded 35 assists and 13 digs, Gryn had 21 digs and junior Devan Green (Monroe Center, IL) notched 13 kills.

 

Versus Union, Ballew closed with 39 assists and 12 digs with Gryn contributing 27 digs.  Freshman Rachel Lambert (Glenmore, PA) notched 12 kills, Green pounded 11 and junior Duong Lau (Upper Darby, PA) totaled 24 digs.

 

The Pride are off to their best start since also opening 7-2 in 2005.  The team notched its second straight runner-up finish in a tournament after competing last week at the ASICS Invitational in Baltimore.

 

Widener on Tuesday again is on the road, this time to visit Ursinus for a 7:00 pm match.
