Widener's stellar year hit a bump in the road as the squad dropped two matches at the Blue Jay Classic in Elizabethtown, PA.

The Pride suffered a 3-1 loss (24-26, 19-25, 25-17, 18-25) to St. Mary's (MD) before a 3-0 setback (18-25, 14-25, 18-25) to Carnegie Mellon.

In the opener, freshman Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) had 36 assists, Julieanne Gryn (Springfield, PA) had 13 digs and fellow junior Duong Lau (Upper Darby, PA) posted 12 for Widener (13-5).  Junior Devan Green (Monroe Center, IL) recorded 13 kills, Rachel Lambert (Glenmore, PA) had 10 and fellow freshman Nicole Merton (Media, PA) contributed nine.

Against Carnegie Mellon, Ballew ended with 20 assists, senior Ashley Varallo (Havertown, PA) notched 11 digs and Lau had 10.

Widener on Saturday faces Lycoming at 10:00 am and competes in bracket play in the afternoon.
