(boxscore)
Widener played a great game and had three tremendous scoring chances, but could not cash in for a tough 1-0 loss to No. 11 Swarthmore at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Freshman Bahae Boutayeb (Philadelphia, PA) had two chances that each sailed wide of the net. The first came midway through the opening half off a great pass from senior Doug Gabel (Feasterville, PA) and the second occurred early in the second half.
Gabel had a great opportunity just inside the box in the closing seconds, but his shot went right of the net.
It was Swarthmore that found the back of the net in the 55th minute. Tobias Resch had a free kick on the left side and Jeff Kusher headed it inside the right post for his first goal of the year.
David D'Annunzio did not have to make a save for the Garnet (5-0-1), who ended with an 8-5 shots edge.
Junior Hamed Correa (Cali, Colombia) closed with five saves for the Pride (2-4-1).
Widener on Saturday hits the road against Wesley, beginning at 6:00 pm.
