Volleyball Keeps Rolling With 3-0 Victory Over Goucher

Junior Julieanne Gryn (Springfield, PA) and senior Ashley Varallo (Havertown, PA) notched 11 digs apiece for Widener, which won for the eighth time in nine matches with a 3-0 triumph (25-22, 25-19, 25-10) over Goucher at Schwartz Center.

 

Widener (9-2) took control in the first set, posting 12 kills and holding Goucher (1-7) to a .000 hitting percentage.  The third set saw the Pride record nine kills and the Gophers sport a -.087 percentage.

 

Gryn, the Commonwealth Conference's digs leader the past two seasons, notched her eighth match this year with at least 10 digs as did Varallo.

 

Freshman Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) dished 18 assists and junior Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, PA) posted eight kills for Widener.

 

Megan Smith had eight kills and 14 digs, Claire Sauvage-Mar notched 14 assists and Kasey Quinn closed with 11 digs for Goucher.

 

It was the Pride's second 3-0 victory this season over the Gophers.  Widener posted that result August 30 en route to closing second at the ASICS Invitational in Baltimore, MD.

 

Widener on Saturday plays at the Osprey Classic in Pomona, NJ.  It will face Gwynedd-Mercy at 10:00 am, Richard Stockton at 1:00 pm and Penn State Abington at 3:00 pm.
