Widener nearly erased a 10-point deficit in the final 1:42, but was dealt a 69-62 loss at Neumann in Aston, PA.
Junior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) hit a layup with 1:17 left to bring Widener within 57-49. The Knights' Nicole Feby drilled 1-of-2 from the line with 1:13 to play for a nine-point contest.
Senior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) made a layup with 1:02 remaining for a 58-52 margin and after Feby missed two from the stripe, a layup from junior Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA) cut the deficit to four.
Neumann's Brittany Whetts made two from the line with 52 seconds remaining for a 60-54 margin before Tyler made a layup with 43 seconds to go, making it a four-point game. Feby then hit 3-of-4 from the stripe over the next 12 seconds, putting the score at 63-56 with 31 seconds left.
Fleming banked in a 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining for a 63-59 game before Whetts hit two more from the line, making it a six-point contest with 22 seconds to go.
Senior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) nailed a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left for a 65-62 contest. But Whetts hit 1-of-2 with 15 seconds to go and Krista DiRomualdo followed suit with 9.5 seconds left for a 67-62 game.
Tyler ended with 14 points and nine rebounds with Fleming adding 12 and seven for the Pride (1-3), who shot 46 percent (17-of-37) in the second half but just 33 percent (22-of-66) overall. Freshman Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) had 12 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double.
Katie Young poured in 20 points with Whetts contributing 17 and nine rebounds for Neumann (2-2), which shot 40 percent (21-of-53) overall and was 12-for-18 from the line in the last 1:13. Feby scored 12 points.
Widener is home Monday against King's, beginning at 7:00 pm.
