Charles Jones and Nyere Miller Come Up Big For No. 7 Men's Basketball in 68-67 Victory at Neumann

Charles Jones (Philadelphia, PA) hit the go-ahead free throw with 3.4 seconds left and fellow senior Nyere Miller (Washington, DC) came up with a huge defense play for No. 7 Widener in a 68-67 victory at Neumann in Aston, PA.

 

The last of Jones' 22 points proved to be the difference as he hit 1-of-2 from the line.  Miller stole the inbounds pass to help preserve the victory for the Pride, who were down 50-41 with eight minutes left.

 

Miller had made 1-of-2 from the line for a 67-64 lead with 22 seconds left before Mike Walukiewicz buried a 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining for Neumann to tie it.

 

Sophomore Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD) scored 15 points and senior Matt Sosna (Stratford, NJ) netted 10 for the Pride (2-1), who shot 46 percent (13-of-28) in the second half and 42 percent (23-of-55) overall.

 

Walukiewicz scored 16 points, Toure' Wright grabbed 13 rebounds and Eli Hitchens had 10 for the Knights (1-2), who shot 51 percent (26-of-51) overall.

 

Widener is home Friday as it hosts the Oki Data Americas Tip-Off.  It will face Penn State Brandywine at 6:00 pm, followed by the second semifinal between Delaware Valley and York (PA) at 8:00 pm.
