Field Hockey Handed 5-0 Loss by No. 2 Messiah

Widener finished its regular season with a 5-0 Commonwealth Conference loss to second-ranked Messiah at Edith R. Dixon Field.

 

The Falcons (7-11, 2-3 CC) scored four times in the opening half, including two goals from Katie Love.  Katrina Campbell and Amber Philpot also tallied for Messiah in the period.

 

Nikki Bailey netted her 14th goal of the season in the 52nd minute for Messiah.

 

Sophomore Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) made 14 saves for the Pride (7-11, 2-3).

 

Widener is headed to the conference tournament for the first time since 2004 as the No. 4 seed.  It once again will face top-seeded Messiah in the semifinals on Wednesday in Grantham, PA.
