Widener rallied in the first and third sets to record a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) over Scranton at Schwartz Center for its fourth win in five outings.
The Pride (17-6) ended the first set on a 10-2 run after trailing 19-15. They did it with the help of getting 13 kills and just one error in the set for a .267 hitting percentage.
Things looked bleak in the third set with Widener in a 21-16 hole. But the squad climbed out with a 9-2 spurt that moved it to 5-0 at home.
Junior Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, PA) had 10 kills and only two errors over 24 attacks for a .333 percentage for the Pride. Julieanne Gryn (Springfield, PA) had 19 digs, fellow junior Duong Lau (Upper Darby, PA) notched 17 and freshman Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) recorded 12 and 33 assists.
Freshman Rachel Lambert (Glenmore, PA) pounded nine kills and senior Ashley Varallo (Havertown, PA) recorded nine digs.
Jacqueline Pisano totaled nine kills and Deanna Every amassed 29 digs for the Royals (18-7).
The Pride are home Saturday on “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” and all fans are asked to wear pink. Donations will be collected and donated to help fight breast cancer.
Widener hosts Gwynedd-Mercy at 10:00 am, Gwynedd-Mercy faces DeSales at 12:00 noon and Widener battles DeSales at 2:00 pm.
