Volleyball Equals School Record for Most Victories by Sweeping Two Matches

(vs. FDU-Florham) / (vs. Ramapo)

Widener notched 3-0 victories over FDU-Florham (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) and Ramapo (25-8, 25-19, 25-8) at Schwartz Center to tie the school record for most victories in a season.

 

Against FDU-Florham, junior Devan Green (Monroe Center, IL) had 15 kills and just three errors over 26 attacks for a .462 hitting percentage along with four blocks.  Freshman Rachel Lambert (Glenmore, PA) totaled 11 kills and only errors over 21 attempts for a .429 percentage.

 

Freshman Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) dished 30 assists and junior Julieanne Gryn (Springfield, PA) totaled 11 digs.

 

Versus Ramapo, Green continued her solid play with 12 kills and only four errors over 26 attacks for a .308 percentage.  Ballew notched 26 assists, Gryn totaled 19 digs, senior Meghan Fitzsimmons (Lancaster, NY) had 10 and junior Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, PA) pounded nine kills.

 

The Pride left no doubt in the third set, totaling 14 kills and just one error over 26 attempts for an impressive .500 percentage.  It was the squad's sixth win in seven outings and it improved to 15-1 this season in three-set matches.

 

Widener (21-7) recorded its sixth 20-win season and equaled its victory total from the 1991 campaign (21-11).

 

In the middle contest of the tri-match, FDU (17-13) posted a 3-1 triumph (18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-11) over Ramapo (12-10).

 

Widener, which already has clinched a berth in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, looks to secure third place at home Tuesday against Lycoming.  Match time is 7:00 pm.
