Field Hockey Hangs Tough Early, But Drops 6-2 Contest at No. 13 Elizabethtown

Widener battled to a halftime draw, but No. 13 Elizabethtown scored four times in the second half to deal the visitors a 6-2 Commonwealth Conference loss in Elizabethtown, PA.

 

Sophomore Lauren Fidati (Forest Hill, MD) scored in the seventh minute for Widener (6-8, 1-1 CC) off a pass from junior Jessica Gonzalez (Eastampton, NJ) to forge a 1-1 tie.  Sophomore Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ) tallied in the 33rd minute to level the match, 2-2.

 

But the Blue Jays (14-2, 2-1) erupted after intermission.  Brenna Noon found the back of the cage in the 52nd minute for her second goal of the game and a 3-2 margin.  Julie Foster tallied two minutes later with Megan Angstadt scoring twice in the last nine minutes.

 

Noon also had an assist and Andrea Miles also scored for Elizabethtown, which ended with a 30-6 shots edge.  Alison Duval notched seven shots.

 

Sophomore Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) made 16 saves for the Pride.

 

It does not get easier for Widener, which next Thursday hosts eighth-ranked Lebanon Valley at 4:00 pm.
