Preston Dudley's Second Go-Ahead Goal of Season Helps Men's Soccer to 3-2 Win Over Albright

(boxscore)

Freshman Preston Dudley (Grasonville, MD) scored his second go-ahead goal in a week, lifting Widener to a 3-2 Commonwealth Conference victory over Albright at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

On the decider, Brian James (Perkasie, PA) had his shot saved as did fellow sophomore Justin Hovaker (Pasadena, MD) on the rebound. Dudley was there for the follow and knocked home his second goal of the year in the 81st minute.

Dudley also scored the go-ahead tally last Wednesday in a 1-0 victory over Neumann. His goal tonight lifted Widener (6-5-3, 2-1 CC) to its third straight win and a result in six of the squad's last seven matches.

Bill James (Perkasie, PA) scored in the fifth minute off a long pass from fellow senior Kyle Leahy (Baltimore, MD) to give Widener a 1-0 lead. Albright (3-8, 0-3) leveled the match in the 34th minute on a tally from Chas DeSanto thanks to a feed from Shawn Gentile.

The Pride took a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute after freshman Bahae Boutayeb (Philadelphia, PA) hustled to win a 50/50 ball near the end line and Brian James tapped it home. The Lions again came up with an equalizer, this time in the 73rd minute when Maarten Kootstra converted a penalty kick.

Junior Hamed Correa (Cali, Colombia) made four saves for Widener and Wendell Hannaford had three for Albright. The Lions ended with a 12-10 shots edge.

Widener is on the road Saturday to visit Lebanon Valley as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. The women's match starts at 12:00 noon and the men's game begins at 3:00 pm.
