1/17/08 -- Junior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) scored 10 of her 19 points in the first half, when Widener opened a 19-point halftime lead in a 76-46 victory over Penn State Brandywine at Schwartz Center.
Dessart Mager drilled two 3-pointers in the opening stanza, helping Widener shoot 39 percent (14-of-36) but hold Penn State Brandywine to a mere 26 percent (6-of-23). Sophomore Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) had eight points and eight rebounds in the half as the home team led, 35-16.
Tyler ended with 11 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Junior Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) scored 14 points for the Pride (8-7), who shot 45 percent (29-of-65) overall and nailed six 3-pointers.
Freshman Laura Carson (Downingtown, PA) grabbed nine rebounds and Dessart Mager had six, helping Widener to a season-high 61. The Lady Lions ended with just 32.
Cara Zibelman scored 15 points and Jackie Cericola added 14 for Penn State Brandywine, which shot only 27 percent (14-of-52) and was a mere 39 percent (15-of-39) from the line.
Widener is home Tuesday to open Commonwealth Conference play against Albright as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game is at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 8:00 pm.
