Football Loses at No. 21 Rowan

9/21/07 -- Widener, playing its final regular-season non-conference game of the year, suffered a 41-0 loss at 21st-ranked Rowan in Glassboro, NJ.

The Profs (2-1) scored on their second drive when Rob Richardson found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown run. Dan Roberts added the extra point with 9:45 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Rowan got the ball back at Widener's 19 yard line following an interception and quarterback Tim Hagerty took advantage with a three-yard scoring run. The play with 1:08 remaining in the first made it 14-0.

Hagerty added a 39-yard touchdown run midway through the second and threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Billy Magill with 24 seconds left for a 28-0 halftime lead. Rowan amassed 268 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes, including 171 yards rushing. 

Vinnie Graff caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Hagerty on Rowan's first drive of the season half and Roberts booted field goals of 38 and 36 yards for the final margin.

Senior Matt Campbell (Broomall, PA) completed 13-of-24 passes for 82 yards for Widener (1-2). Sophomore Shane Szumski (Moorestown, NJ) ended with 12 tackles and senior John Martorell (Aston, PA) added nine.

Hagerty completed 9-of-24 passes for 116 yards and two scores. Richardson had 16 carries for 97 yards.

Widener opens Middle Atlantic Conference play Saturday at Lycoming, beginning at 1:30 pm in Williamsport, PA.
