Men's Soccer Cruises to 6-0 Triumph Over Delaware Valley

9/2/07 -- Sophomore Justin McCall (Brookhaven, PA) and junior Stu Johnson (North Wales, PA) each scored twice for Widener, which took control early for a 6-0 victory over Delaware Valley at the Swarthmore Garnet Alumni Classic.

McCall scored 49 seconds into the game, tapping in a cross from senior Frank Nolan (Hatboro, PA) to open the scoring. McCall also tallied less then four minutes later with Nolan and junior Doug Gabel (Feasterville, PA) getting the assists for a 2-0 margin.

Nolan and Johnson scored in the 27th and 30th minutes, respectively, as Widener opened a 4-0 halftime lead. The Pride owned a 12-4 shots edge in that span.

Johnson and junior Bill James (Perkasie, PA) each scored in the second half for Widener, which closed with a 20-9 shots advantage overall.

Nolan and James each had a goal and three assists with Bill's brother Brian James (Perkasie, PA) notching two assists. Sophomore Marty Squicciarini (Lansdale, PA) made four saves in 74 minutes.

This marks the first time Widener is 2-0 since the 2003 squad opened with a 6-0 mark.

Nick D'Amato and Steve Richtmyer each made three saves for the Aggies (0-2).

Gabel, Squicciarini, Bill James and senior Chad Dye (Bel Air, MD) all were named to the all-tournament team.

Widener on Wednesday plays its home opener against Philadelphia Biblical, beginning at 4:00 pm.
