12/15/07 -- Junior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) scored a season-high 19 points and sophomore Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) notched her first career double-double for Widener, which won its fourth straight with an 84-73 triumph at Rowan in Glassboro, NJ.
Widener (6-3) took control in the second half, when it shot 71 percent (20-of-28) from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Tyler poured in all 14 of her points in that half, as did sophomore Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA).
Rowan (5-4) scored nine consecutive points to take a 47-41 lead with 14:35 to play. Nicole Perrini began the run for the Profs with a 3-pointer.
But the Pride scored 13 straight points to erase a five-point deficit with 11:52 left, grabbing a 60-52 cushion with 8:38 remaining. Reber netted six points in that span as part of her day in which she shot 5-of-11 from the field, helping the Pride to their sixth win in seven outings.
Dessart Mager shot 8-of-15 from the floor to help Widener hit 47 percent (31-of-66) overall and 8-of-16 from 3-point range. Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) scored 14 points and fellow junior Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) added 10.
Tyler grabbed 10 rebounds, one year after posting eight against Rowan, to help Widener gain a convincing 47-28 edge. Fleming and Dessart Mager had seven rebounds apiece for the Pride, who closed with a 19-8 advantage on the offensive boards.
Ashley Cieplicki scored 16 points, Michelle Lala had 12 and Kristina Wallace contributed 12 and nine assists for Rowan, which shot 46 percent (27-of-59) from the floor.
Widener is off until Saturday, December 29, when it plays sixth-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Surf City Classic in Irvine, CA. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm ET (2:00 pm PT). The Pride on Monday, December 31 will face Case Western Reserve at 3:00 pm ET (12:00 noon PT).
