Barbara Fleming's Career-High 26 Points Helps Women's Basketball to 63-55 Triumph Over Neumann

11/24/07 -- Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) poured in a career-high 26 points and fellow junior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) hauled in a personal-best 16 rebounds for Widener in a 63-55 victory over Neumann at Schwartz Center.

Widener (1-2) cemented the game on an 8-0 run spanning 2 1/2 minutes for its biggest lead, 57-47 with 1:59 left. Junior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) scored the last four points in that span, including a 3-pointer from the right corner to cap it.

Fleming also scored four points in that run, helping her shoot 7-of-11 from the floor and 11-for-15 from the line over 30 minutes.

The Pride also got a huge lift in the second half from their defense, limiting the Knights (1-1) to only 25 percent shooting (10-of-40) during that span. Neumann shot just 30 percent (21-of-70) overall and was 1-of-7 from 3-point range.

Tyler grabbed 12 defensive rebounds over 33 minutes and Fleming had eight rebounds overall. Dessart Mager ended with 12 points for Widener, which shot 46 percent (10-of-22) from the floor after intermission.

Brittany Whetts had 14 points and 18 rebounds with Caitlin Agnew pouring in 15 points for Neumann, which ended with a 60-52 rebounding edge.

Widener returns to the hardwood on Wednesday against Wilkes, beginning at 7:00 pm at Schwartz Center.
