Tim Kilkenny's Fourth-Quarter Touchdown Catch Lifts Football to 13-10 Victory Over Delaware Valley For Keystone Cup

(boxscore)

10/26/07 -- Junior Tim Kilkenny (Doylestown, PA) hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from senior Matt Campbell (Broomall, PA) with 6:03 left, lifting Widener to a 13-10 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Delaware Valley in a downpour at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Widener (6-2, 5-0 MAC) got the ball on the winning drive when junior Keith Wilson (Yardley, PA) forced quarterback Mike Isgro to fumble as he was running for a first down. Sophomore Brian Pastor (Chambersburg, PA) recovered for the Pride at the Aggies 19 yard line.

Two plays later, the Pride took the lead for good. Campbell rolled to his left and fired a pass toward the back of the end zone for Kilkenny, who caught it for his second touchdown of the year.

Widener late in the game was stopped on its 33 yard line, but senior punter Robert McHugh (Philadelphia, PA) came through in the clutch. He boomed a 63-yard punt to the Aggies four yard line with 2:50 left for his fourth boot this season of at least 50 yards and his 20th inside the 20 yard line.

Delaware Valley (4-4, 4-1) turned it over on downs after freshman Joe Favinger (Mohnton, PA) tackled Isgro for a loss on fourth down at the Aggies 11 yard line.

The Aggies got the ball back when the Pride were halted at the one yard line attempting to put away the game with 55 seconds to go. But DVC coughed up the ball on second down when Joel Foreman attempted a hook-and-lateral that was recovered by senior Orlando Brown (Wilmington, DE).

That capped a second half in which the Pride gained a 183-95 advantage in total offense. Widener had an average starting field position of the DVC 42 yard line and the visitors started on average at its 19 yard line.

Widener grabbed its first lead, 6-3, with 6:19 left in the third on a 22-yard field goal from senior Tom Laurich (Warminster, PA).

The Aggies grabbed a 10-6 cushion in the first minute of the fourth quarter on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Isgro to Dan Heiland. DVC looked in great shape later in the period when Quincy Thaxton intercepted Campbell in the end zone and later recovered a fumble before Isgro's turnover swung the momentum back to the home team.

The victory was Widener's fifth straight, marking the fourth straight season it has accomplished this. The team improved to 25-5 in the series, notching its first victory since 2002 to stop a four-game skid and reclaim the Keystone Cup.

Campbell completed 16-of-25 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown with sophomore Ian Decker (Phillipsburg, NJ) recording 24 carries for 101 yards. Favinger had 10 tackles, two of his team's five sacks and three tackles for a loss.

Senior Eric Feinschil (Philadelphia, PA) also had 10 tackles and McHugh amassed seven punts for a 41.0 yard average for Widener.

Isgro completed 17-of-27 passes for 194 yards and a score with Heiland catching five passes for 77 yards. John Pursell ended with 10 tackles for the Aggies, who had their four-game winning streak halted.

Widener held DVC to just 56 yards rushing, averaging 1.4 yards per carry.

The Pride next Saturday go for their 17th MAC title and first since 2002. It will not be an easy task as Albright (6-1, 4-0) comes to town for a 1:00 pm kickoff on Senior Day.

Albright on Saturday hosts Lebanon Valley with a chance to join Widener atop the conference.
