Men's Soccer Draws, 2-2, With Lebanon Valley

(boxscore)

10/24/07 -- Junior Bill James (Perkasie, PA) scored with 3:58 left in regulation for Widener, which played to a 2-2 tie with Commonwealth Conference foe Lebanon Valley at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Widener (7-9-1, 1-2-1 CC) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when senior Frank Nolan (Hatboro, PA) had his 20-yard shot bang in off the right post. LVC (6-9-2, 0-3-1) tied it in the 37th minute on Joe Kopchick's shot inside the left post.

The Dutchmen grabbed a 2-1 cushion in the 66th minute on Zach Barkus' 25-yard blast. But James was there to save the day, taking a long feed from senior Chad Dye (Bel Air, MD) and netting a 20-yard shot for his fourth goal of the year.

Nolan almost had his second of the game in the closing seconds of regulation, but his shot just went wide. Sophomore Justin McCall (Brookhaven, PA) in the second overtime had one shot bounce off the keeper and trickle against the post. He had a point-blank attempt with three minutes remaining saved by goalkeeper Tim Mehl.

James had three shots with sophomore Marty Squicciarini (Lansdale, PA) making three saves for Widener.

Mehl stopped five shots and Barkus attempted four shots for the Dutchmen.

Widener sits in fourth place in the conference, one-half game over Albright. The Pride can clinch a league tournament berth with a win or tie against the Lions on Saturday in Reading, PA. Kickoff is at 8:00 pm, preceded by the women's game at 6:00 pm.
