10/2/07 -- Junior Bill James (Perkasie, PA) equaled the school record with seven points, thanks to two goals and three assists in Widener's 10-0 blanking of Penn State Abington at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
James assisted on the first three goals before scoring on the fourth in the 24th minute. After Widener (6-5) opened a 7-0 halftime lead, he tallied the first goal of the second half in the 58th minute.
James tied the mark previously set by Joe Ross, who did it against Valley Forge Christian in 1995. Widener's 10 goals is its most since netting the same number against Alvernia on September 6, 1998.
Sophomore Justin McCall (Brookhaven, PA) scored twice, with junior Kyle Leahy (Baltimore, MD) dishing two assists. Sophomore Sean Matthews (Warminster, PA), Brian James (Perkasie, PA) and fellow freshman Billy Stangroom (Bethlehem, PA) each had a goal and an assist.
Junior Stu Johnson (North Wales, PA), sophomore Derek Kupferschmidt (Royersford, PA) and freshman Jon Silva (Succasunna, NJ) also scored for the Pride.
Widener on Saturday opens Commonwealth Conference play at Lycoming as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. The men's contest starts at 1:00 pm, followed by the women's game at 3:30 pm.
