10/13/07 -- A late goal in regulation by sophomore Jackie Elliott (Upper Darby, PA) tied the contest for Widener, but it was not enough in a 2-1 overtime loss to Commonwealth Conference foe Elizabethtown at Edith R. Dixon Field.
Liz DeMatteis scored in the 21st minute to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. The Pride (10-3, 0-1 CC) got their chance in the 53rd minute and capitalized when Elliott netted her fourth goal of the season off a feed from senior Jaime Carr (Norristown, PA).
But Elizabethtown (10-5, 1-0) came through the extra session when Brenna Noon tallied 4:52 in. It ended a period in which the Blue Jays owned a 4-0 shots edge to close up 14-9 overall.
Noon finished with six shots, DeMatteis had four and Laura Ressler totaled eight saves for Elizabethtown, which last season advanced to the NCAA Tournament “Sweet 16.”
Freshman Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) ended with 11 saves, including three in overtime for the Pride. Sophomore Kelly Eash (Glenolden, PA) had three shots.
Widener is home Wednesday against Albright at 4:00 pm for another conference tilt.
