    Assistant Men's & Women's Swimming Coach
Matt Matys is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Widener men's and women's swimming teams.

Matys is also the director of the Delco Swim School. He has over 25 years of swimming experience which ranges from teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding, competitive swimming, coaching, and pool management.

Matt received his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from West Chester University where he was an All-America swimmer.  He was named Athlete of the Year at the university in 2000 and 2002 then inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.  During his prolific career as a swimmer, he broke numerous swimming records and stood out as a true leader on the team. Once his swimming career ended, he continued to serve the team by joining the coaching staff under the guidance of head coach and swim lesson director Jamie Rudisill.

Matt has also coached at Creekside Swim Club in the Delco Swim League for 18 years.  During his coaching tenure, he gained experience teaching beginner swimmers as young as three years old while a majority went on to compete at the age of four.  Teaching children how to swim is his passion.  Matt feels swimming is a life skill and all children and adults should know how to be safe, comfortable, and confident in the water.
