Michael Ambrulavage started coaching in the fall of 2017 with Widener’s Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams. He oversees the middle distance and distance runners, which has set all twelve available middle distance/distance school records in his coaching tenure. Ambrulavage has coached two cross country individual MAC Champions, nine individual MAC Champions and three MAC Champion relay teams on the track. In 2021, Coach Ambrulavage guided the women’s cross country team to the program’s first MAC Conference Championship, the Pride’s first Regional Championship, and the Pride’s first NCAA appearance as a team. In 2024 he helped Gabriella Nye to Second Team All-American honors in the indoor Mile.
Ambrulavage earned the Metro Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year in the 2023 Indoor Track and Field Season. Coach Ambrulavage coached the Pride distance runners to combine for 64 of Widener’s 147 points in winning the MAC Indoor Championships. His athletes held the top two spots in the Metro Region in four events, mile, 3000, 5000 and distance medley, and occupy four of the top 10 in the 3000 and 5000. During the outdoor season of 2023, Ambrulavage was named the MAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year after his distance squad scored sixty-three points across six events of Widener’s 148-point total in winning the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Prior to coaching, Ambrulavage competed for Widener from 2012 to 2017, as a member of the Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field teams. During his four years with the Pride, he contributed to fourteen Middle Atlantic Conference Championships for the Pride.
A native of Mountain Top, Pa., Ambrulavage earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 2016. One year later, Ambrulavage would earn his Master's in Business Administration in 2017 from Widener. He currently works as a Highway Design Engineer.
