Widener University Athletics

Dewey Oriente is in his fourth season as an assistant coach, serving as Widener’s hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. In his three years with the Pride, Oriente has mentored nine All-Commonwealth Conference hitters and three All-Mid Atlantic Regional players. The team has been a consistent force in the Commonwealth Conference finishing near the top of every offensive statistical category. In 2014, Michael Riverso (MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year) and Michael Elfreth (MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year) etched their names into the record books when they set the single season record for hits with 69 each.

Oriente competed four years for Saint Joseph’s, being named All-Region and Honorable Mention All-Atlantic 10 Conference in 2009. He was also selected to the Philadelphia Big Five All-Academic Team. Oriente also was tabbed First Team All-Big Five in 2009 and 2010, as well as Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in 2010. He competed for the Kutztown Rockies of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) in the summer of 2009 and recently completed his first season as an Assistant Coach with the newly formed South Jersey Giants in the ACBL.

Oriente has previously worked at MapleZone Sports Institute and still operates the Delaware Valley Youth Athletic Association Little League summer camp. Oriente graduated Saint Joseph’s in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Finance and is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science with a concentration in Sports Management.
