Pride Battle Late, But Were Unable to Overcome Stevenson Lead

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Widener Baseball's four game winning streak comes to an end after a loss to the Stevenson Mustangs.

The Pride are now 14-13 on the season and 8-5 in MAC Commonwealth play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Brendan Raven had a stellar day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and a team-high three RBIs.
  • Ryan Madden delivered a multi-hit performance, going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
  • Brandon Yoder was a consistent threat in the box, going 2-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Ryan Bauerle continued to deliver from the lead off spot, reaching base three times on two hits and a walk while coming around to score a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener threatened early by loading the bases in the first inning but was unable to capitalize. The Pride broke through in the top of the second when Ryan Madden singled, advanced to second, and was driven home by a RBI single to right field from Brandon Yoder to give Widener a 1-0 advantage. However, Stevenson answered immediately in the bottom half of the frame, scoring three runs on a solo home run and a two-run single. Stevenson extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth, plating four runs with an RBI single and a three-run homer to make it a 7-1 game.

  • After a scoreless fifth inning, Widener mounted a fierce rally in the top of the sixth. Ryan Madden led off with a double, Braedyn Clinton reached on an error, and Ryan Bauerle was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brandon Yoder kept the line moving with an RBI single to score Madden, Kevin Bukowski took a hit-by-pitch to bring home Clinton, and Brendan Raven lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Bauerle, slicing the deficit to 7-4. Stevenson responded heavily in the bottom of the seventh, pulling away with a pair of two-run home runs to stretch their lead to 11-4. Refusing to go down quietly, the Pride offense struck again in the top of the eighth when Kevin Bukowski singled and Brendan Raven crushed a two-run home run to left field, making it an 11-6 game. The Pride were unable to keep the momentum going and would lose by a final score of 11-6
