GRANTHAM, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse falls in conference opener to Messiah after a third quarter slump.
The 11-7 loss moves the Pride to 4-7 in the regular season and 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride would open their 60-minute campaign on the defensive. Trowbridge would put the Pride on the board with a free-position goal at 11:37 to make the score 2-1. A Falcon's draw control would put the Pride on defense once again but Cox would force a turnover allowing Trowbridge to snag a ground ball. Mantz took two shots with the second falling to tie the game at two. Trowbridge sunk another goal at 3:02 with a Mantz assist to head into the second quarter down 4-3.
- Out of the break, Cox would force her second turnover and earn a man-up opportunity. Polacek saw a save to transition into a Trowbridge goal at 7:21. A draw control win for Trowbridge led to a Chloe Mingioni unassisted goal to take a 5-4 lead with 6:19 remaining. The Pride defense would bow but not break before half as shots would come flying in from the Falcons. With 0:09 left, Edwards brought the lead back to the Blue and Gold with an unassisted goal.
- With 30 minutes remaining, the Pride would dig in as the Falcons came out on a shooting streak. Polacek registered three saves in a short span. The offense would slow as Edwards and Lynch would be the only Pride players to see shots. The score was 9-6 in favor of the Falcons.
- Edwards won a draw control to allow Trowbridge to find an unassisted goal at 14:01 to cut into the score. The Falcons answered but Edwards picked up a free-position shot that would be high. Lynch forced a turnover to give the possession back with under five remaining. Final shots would fall from the Pride as they would head back with a 9-7 defeat.
