Widener got off to a strong start in the first inning, striking early with a two-run frame to grab an early lead. Kaelin Kuester set the tone, reaching base and coming around to score, while Alyssa Gomez delivered a key two-RBI double to put the Pride on top. The offense looked poised for more, but Haverford managed to limit the damage. In the bottom of the second, Haverford responded with two runs of their own, evening the score. Widener remained aggressive at the plate, with Jocelin Mayorga working walks to get on base and Paris Balilonis adding a hit to keep the pressure on. However, Haverford took the lead in the third with another run, making it 3-2 heading into the fourth. Widener's defense, including strong play from Taylor Bell at shortstop, helped prevent further scoring early on.Â

In the bottom of the fourth, Haverford broke the game open with a three-run inning, extending their lead. Widener looked to respond but struggled to get timely hits despite getting runners on base. The defense tightened up in the fifth, keeping Haverford off the scoreboard, and the offense showed signs of life in the sixth inning. Kuester once again ignited the lineup, scoring her second run of the game, while Julia Yogis put the ball in play to bring in a crucial run, cutting the deficit to 6-3. However, Haverford tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Widener fought until the final out, with Gomez continuing her strong day at the plate, but ultimately, the Pride couldn't close the gap, falling 7-3.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWOÂ
-
Widener had a tough start as Haverford took an early lead in the first inning. A fielding error allowed a baserunner to advance, setting up a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. Haverford tacked on another unearned run after a triple and a throwing error, putting Widener in a 2-0 deficit early. Caitlyn Katchur settled in after that, limiting damage and keeping the game within reach. Widener's offense struggled to find momentum through the first few innings, with Paris Balilonis and Alyssa Gomez each picking up hits, but the team couldn't string together enough baserunners to capitalize. Taylor Bell provided a spark with a double, but the Pride were unable to bring her home. Meanwhile, Widener's defense made some key plays, including Katelyn Tong's six putouts at first base, keeping the game close through three innings.Â

The game took a decisive turn in the bottom of the fourth, as Haverford broke it open with a six-run inning. A leadoff double and a fielding miscue put runners in scoring position before Haverford strung together multiple hits and capitalized on wild pitches. Hallie Wiener came in to relieve Katchur, but Haverford's momentum continued as they extended the lead to 8-0. Widener looked to respond in the fifth but struggled to generate offense against Haverford's pitching, as a strong defensive effort from the home team shut down any comeback attempts. Â
