BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SALISBURY
- With bases loaded in the top of the first, the Sea Gulls started the game with a 2-0 lead. They had RBIs on a walk and single. The Pride rotated pitchers early, as each of the first three innings had someone new on the mound: Jackson Houy, Trae Sanders, and Weitzel. The second and third innings were pitching duals. Both teams had a combined one hit through those innings. The Sea Gulls added a run in the fourth on an RBI single, but Widener got on the board in the bottom of the inning. A Bauerle two-RBI double cut the deficit to one run. This would force a Salisbury pitching change. After four, Salisbury led 3-2.
- The Sea Gulls put three runs up in the fifth inning. A Salisbury error in the bottom of the fifth allowed Widener to cut the visitors' advantage to three. The Sea Gulls' bats, however, continued their attack. They went up 8-3 in the sixth. Widener had a few base runners in the back innings, but Salisbury kept up their scoring. They would score 14 runs in the last two innings. Salisbury won 22-3.
