Women’s Lacrosse’s Trip to Virginia Ends in Tough Loss to #15 Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fast paced #15 Christopher Newport offense creates problem for Women's Lacrosse in tough loss.
 
The 18-5 loss moves the Pride to 3-5 in the regular season with the first MAC Commonwealth game set for Apr. 6 against Alvernia.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Pride scoring was passed around with five players scoring goals.
  • Alex Krohn made two assists to lead.
  • Clark Trowbridge and Jamie DeHaven would each see three draw control wins.
  • Defensively, Katelyn Rosini would see eight saves. 
  • The Pride would take eight shots with all being on target. The Pride also saw nine ground balls and create five turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A Pride forced turnover on the first possession of the game would lead into a Jordyn Edwards goal to give the first points for both sides. Chloe Mingioni would cash in on an unassisted goal at 10:57 to force a Captains' timeout. A hard attacking Captains offense would tie the game at two. A save from Katelyn Rosini would keep the game tied hallway into the quarter. Jessica Mantz's free position shot saw net to tie the game at three. Rosini stood tall in on a free position shot to head into the second quarter tied at three.
     
  • Clark Trowbridge tied the game at 12:44 on an Alex Krohn pass over the net. A fast-attacking Captains offense would test the Pride defense. At the 9:25 mark, a free position shot would keep the score at 6-4 Captains. The Pride would take a timeout with 8:26 left in the half to draw a plan. Rosini added a save to her stats on a quick pass and shoot shot. Edwards would force a turnover to allow Kasey Thornton to scoop a ground ball to lead into a good Pride clear. Heading into halftime the Pride were down 9-4.
     
  • Out of halftime, Edwards would win a draw control to give the Pride their first attacking possession. In the cage, Rosini would make a quick free position save at 12:31. Five minutes into the quarter, the Pride would take a timeout to try and slow the fast-paced Captains. Jamie DeHaven would see the first free position shot for the Pride at 8:33. Edwards saw a draw control win to give the Pride a women-up opportunity. Rosini's goalkeeping kept the Captains' shot out allowing the Pride to transition and draw a card. DeHaven's shot would mark the first goal of the third at 1:26 on a Krohn pass. Moving to the fourth quarter the Pride were down 15-5.
     
  • Trowbridge opened the fourth with a draw control win. Makayla Cox would earn the Pride a good clear three minutes in while Rosini made a tough save in the sun to keep the score locked at 15-5. A hard fought fourth quarter would see a handful of saves from Rosini and a couple offensive runs for the Pride as the game would come to a close in a 18-5 loss.
