HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SHENANDOAH

GAME 1

Stephen Posner and Justin Costanzo gave Widener its two runs of the afternoon. The Pride accumulated five hits, with two of them coming from Kyle Brex. Aidan O'Brien got the start for the Pride on the mound, allowing six hits and seven runs through 3.1 innings.

Widener kept the score close through two innings, only giving up one run in the first on an RBI. They retired the Hornets quickly in the second inning on three straight batters, including a strikeout on the final one.

The Pride were not able to score in the third inning, but they allowed another run to the Hornets. This time, it was on an infield sacrifice fly. The Pride clamped on defense for the remainder of the inning, with the final batter striking out looking.

Widener was able to get on the board in both the fourth and fifth innings. A Nick Barenz ground-out allowed Costanzo to score an unearned run. Down only 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, Shenandoah ripped off five runs on six hits. Widener finally got out of the inning on a pop-up to second base.

In the fifth, Costanzo recorded an RBI on a single up the middle. Posner scored for Widener's second score of the day. However, the Hornets would go on to score three runs in each of the next two innings. Although the Pride kept it close for the initial three innings, they could not contain Shenandoah's offense in the back half. The final score was Shenandoah 13-2.

GAME 2

Costanzo scored the only run for the Pride in game two. Caleb Horner got the start on the mound, going 4.2 innings and throwing 70 pitches. He gave up three runs and six hits. Defensively, Widener had 18 put-outs.

The first two innings were scoreless for either side, with Widener and Shenandoah making quick defensive stands. Shenandoah got the only two hits of the first two innings.

Going into the third, the Pride still had a hard time getting on base, recording three straight outs. However, the Hornets broke through and scored twice in the third. After a ground out by Shenandoah, Horner allowed a home run on the next batter. A ground-rule double gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

The Pride and Hornets were locked in a defensive battle for the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Shenandoah's one run in the fifth was the only one in that three-inning stretch. To end the sixth, Toby Hallman retired Shenandoah's Tyler Blittersdorf swinging.

With only one inning left to score, the Pride were able to finally get on the board with a Costanzo home run to right field. Unfortunately for them, the next two plays were a pop-up and a ground-out. The Hornets took the game 3-1, and they swept the doubleheader.
