CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team battled hard against Stevenson on Senior Day, but the Mustangs came away with a 13-5 victory on Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field.
With the loss, the Pride finished the regular season with a 10-7 record and 5-3 in conference play. The Pride earned the fourth seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON
- The Pride opened the scoring after Amber Bretz fired in a goal in the first 1:21 of the game. However, the Mustangs scored two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead.
- In the second quarter, the Pride tied the game at 2 with 11:48 to play after Clark Trowbridge found the back of the net off a pass from Jamie DeHaven. But, Stevenson scored four straight goals in the next minutes to take a 6-2 lead with 1:25 left. Trowbridge closed the half by putting in her second goal with 51 seconds left to make it a 6-3 Stevenson lead at halftime.
- In the second half, the Mustangs outscored the Pride, 7-2. The. Pride received both goals in the fourth quarter from Bretz and Annalee Doyle.
- Defensively, Maddie Medve had eight saves in goal. Trowbridge led the team with five ground balls and Kaely Cristello caused three turnovers in the defeat.
- Before the game, the Pride honored and recognized 11 seniors/graduate students — Bretz, Medve, Gab Cohen, Gianna Crawford, Chelsea Forsyth, Brooke Graham, Grace Lindberger, Olivia McDonald, Maura Murray, Ceci Puente, and Melanie Shirk — for all their hard work for the program.

The Pride will host Lebanon Valley in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament quarterfinals on Monday. Time for the game is to be determined.
