Three Pride Players Homer As @WidenerSoftball Splits With Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Widener University softball team split its Tuesday doubleheader against Cabrini, winning the opener 8-4 and falling 3-1 in the second leg.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
After two scoreless innings, Widener got on the board in the third. Calciano opened with a solo homer to grab the 1-0 lead. On the next two at-bats, Mikaela Lovell was hit by a pitch and sacrificed to second. After Cabrini walked the following batter, McDowell singled down the middle to plate Lovell. Another walk set up a bases loaded situation that Ariel Silva capitalized on when she sent home McDowell and Johnson on a sacrifice bunt to give the Pride a 4-0 advantage after three innings.

The Cavaliers responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third, but the Blue and Gold came back swinging in the fourth. DiMario kicked things off with another Widener solo home run. After a Calciano walk and a Jamie Gosselin single, Jess Kaczmarczyk sacrifice bunted to put both runners in scoring position. Two batters later, a Cabrini error allowed the two runners to score as the Pride ended the inning up 7-4. Widener tacked on one more run in the sixth and held the Cavaliers scoreless through the remainder of the game to pick up the 8-4 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE GAME TWO
Cabrini struck first in the nightcap with two scores in the opening inning. Neither team found the board in the next three frames, until a Lindsey Cooper solo home run in the fifth cut the deficit to 2-1. The Cavaliers responded with a solo home run in the sixth to go back up by two.

The Pride was able to put two runners in scoring position in the seventh inning, but could not get them home as it was dealt the 3-1 setback.
