@WidenerSoftball Drops Heartbreaker on Senior Day

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University softball team was upended in a doubleheader on Senior Day by the Hood Blazers, falling 2-0 in the opener and 6-5 in the second game. The twinbill concluded the 2018 season for the Pride.
 
BY THE NUMBERS  
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE (Hood 2, Widener 0)
  • The Blazers posted the only runs of the game with single tallies in the first and third innings.
  • Widener had its best opportunities in the fourth and sixth, putting a runner on third with less than two out, but were unable to dent the scoreboard.
  • Both pitchers turned in strong performances. Widener got a complete game effort from Rabuck who allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out four.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO (Hood 6, Widener 5)
  • Hood once again jumped on the board in the top of the first inning.
  • This time the Blue and Gold responded right away as Gosselin and DelRomano singled in front of Sterling who tripled over the head of the rightfielder, plating both runners for a 2-1 Widener lead.
  • In the bottom of the third, Carli Benozich singled with two outs, bringing up DelRomano who cracked her second homer of the year, dinging the scoreboard in left to extend the lead.
  • Two frames later a single and an error had two on for Sterling who doubled, scoring Rabuck, making it 5-1.
  • Hood finished the game strong, scoring five times in the seventh to claim the win.
