Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Record-Setting Day for @WidenerWLax in Win Against Eastern

CHESTER, Pa.Melanie Bert set a Widener University women's lacrosse record for single game points as the Pride downed the Eastern Eagles 24-11 on Saturday morning.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Bert had her record-setting day on the strength of seven goals and six assists. With the 13 points, she broke the record of 12 that had been done twice previously, by Courtney Patton against Cedar Crest on April 2, 1991 and by Jackie Elliot versus Alvernia on April 8, 2009.
  • Kelly Lynch also set a program record, posting seven assists in the game, breaking her own record. She also scored four goals.
  • Emma DiGilio found the back of the net five times. Caroline Kelley tallied twice and Lexi Colella, Ashley Mastronardo, Kaylee Horchak, Meg Steffney, and Megan Racioppi each scored once. For Colella, it was the first goal of her collegiate career.
  • The Blue and Gold held a 36-22 edge in ground balls for the contest.
  • As a team, Widener came up one goal shy of the team record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Eagles scored the first goal of the game, Widener netted five of the next seven to go up 5-3 on a goal by Bert at the 16:15 mark.
  • Eastern tied the scored with a pair of goals just past the midway point of the frame.
  • Neither team found the back of the net for the next four minutes. The Pride broke the deadlock on Steffney's goal with 10:21 to go in the opening half. That ignited a 6-0 Widener run to close the frame, giving the home squad a 11-6 lead at the half.
  • Opening the second stanza, the Blue and Gold scored three of the first four goals and methodically extended its lead, outscoring the Eagles 13-6 in the frame.
  • Both records were set on the final goal of the contest, as Lynch fed Bert who was cutting across the middle for score.
