AMBLER, Pa. – Bolstered by a six-run fifth inning and an outstanding performance on the mound, the Widener University baseball team downed the Arcadia Knights 7-4 in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
	- Greg Elfreth led Widener with three hits on the afternoon, including a double. He also walked, reaching base safely four times.
 
	- Stephen DeBellis and Glenn Seymour also had two hits apiece.
 
	- Matthew Guarino picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits in seven innings. He took a no-hitter into the sixth.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Arcadia jumped on the board first with a run in the opening inning thanks to a walk, a passed ball, and two groundouts.
 
	- The Pride knotted the score in the fourth as DeBellis singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. A groundout advanced him to third before an RBI grounder from Mike Garofalo brought him home.
 
	- Widener broke the game open with a big crooked number in the fifth. Nathan Valenta led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Brennan Taylor. Dylan Peiffer singled through the middle to plate Valenta with the first run of the inning. After a Elfreth double put runners on second and third, Nick D'Alessandro reached on a fielder's choice to score a pair and make it 4-1.
 
	- Continuing the inning, a double by DeBellis drove in D'Alessandro, followed by a single from Seymour to tally another run. Garofalo came through with his second hit of the game to move Seymour to third. Chandler Liero stepped up and drove a single to left to plate the final run of the frame, extending the lead to 7-1.
 
	- The Knights drew closer, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
	- Arcadia made it interesting, scoring a run and loading the bases in the ninth, but the Pride held on for the win.
