Women's Lacrosse Falls in Offensive Battle to Stevenson on Senior Day

CHESTER, Pa. (April 30, 2016) – The Widener women's lacrosse team fought hard but was unable to secure the victory as they fell to Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth foe Stevenson, 15-14, on Saturday at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
The Pride fell to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in MAC Commonwealth action, while the Mustangs improved to 9-8 and 7-1 in conference play.
 
Stevenson took a 10-5 lead into halftime, and opened the second half with the first two goals. Six minutes into the second frame, freshman Kristi Rohrer (Seaville, N.J.) cut the lead by the Mustangs in half. Meghan Garvey (Avondale, Pa.) would add a goal just a minute later, while Melissa Sailey (Swedesboro, N.J.) scored two straight goals less than a minute a part.
 
Sailey's second goal would the Pride's deficit down to three. The senior finished the game with four goals on six shots and four draw controls.
 
Morgan Scott (Cinnaminson, N.J.) netted three goals on four shots, while Kelly Lynch (Springfield, Pa.) recorded two goals on three shots.
 
After an exchange of goals between the conference opponents, Widener would score three unanswered goals in the last ten minutes for a Stevenson 15-14 advantage. The Pride were 13-of-14 on clearance attempts, and grabbed 13 draw controls.
 
Junior Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) recorded 13 saves in 60 minutes played in net.
 
Prior the game, the team celebrated the five graduating seniors, Garvey, Sailey, Scott, Kelley Dreher (Glen Rock, Pa.) and Lindsey Brust (Pennsburg, Pa.), for their contributions to the program.
 
Widener finishes the regular season with a 5-10 overall record and 2-6 in MAC Commonwealth action. After four goals from Garvey today, the senior led the Blue and Gold with 33 goals on the year.
