Baseball Drops Non-Conference Contest to Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. (April 20, 2016) – The Widener baseball was unable to slow down a hot offense as they fell to Keystone, 17-2, in non-conference action at Christy Mathewson Field on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Pride fall to 18-13-1, while Keystone, who has received votes in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, improves to 21-6.
 
The Giants opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Randy Torres recorded the first run of the game as he knocked in Louis Reyes with a single up the middle.
 
Widener would get on the board as Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) grounded out to second base for an RBI.
 
Nicholas Enos (Williamstown, N.J.) would cut into the lead of the Giants with an RBI single to center, which would score junior Michael Elfreth (Washington Township, N.J.).
 
Enos finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate with one walk and a run batted in against the Giants. Elfreth was 2-for-3 from the plate with a run scored and a stolen base.
 
McDonough added a stolen base for the Pride. Nick D'Alessandro (Williamstown, N.J.) recorded one hit in for at-bats and a run scored for the Pride.
 
James Dougherty (Glenside, Pa.) allowed ten hits and eight runs while striking out two and walking three in four innings of work on the mound.
 
Widener will be back in action on Friday as they host Hood. First pitch for the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth game is slated for 3:30 p.m.
