Junior Sam Smith helped the men's basketball team post a perfect 2-0 record this past week by registering a career high in both games against Arcadia and Albright. After scoring 14 points and grabbing a career-high nine rebounds in a 70-56 win over Arcadia, Smith helped Widener earn an improbable 89-78 overtime victory against Albright by racking up a career-high 32 points and coming through in the clutch.

Even though Widener trailed by four points with 12.7 seconds remaining in regulation and 73-70 with 2.5 seconds left, Smith most notably hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to knot the score at 73 and send the game into overtime. Then with his team trailing 75-74, Smith canned back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 10-0 run for the Pride in the extra session to help the team earn the 89-78 win.

The junior, who had never scored more than 22 points in a game before this week, averaged 23 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 55.2 percent (16-of-29) from the floor and 50 percent (7-of-14) from long range to keep the team in postseason contention.
