Widener University Athletics

The women's basketball team rode its seniors to a convincing 67-52 victory over No. 16 Messiah in the sectional semifinals and advanced to the "Elite Eight" for the first time in school history.  In the contest, Vanessa Hejnas was too much in the paint with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, Kate Dellinger had 13 and 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season, Lil Carney turned the game into a personal showcase with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Francesca Lee had nine points and six rebounds to go with smothering defense.  The squad became the first team in 41 years of women's athletics at the school to win an NCAA Tournament game.
