Men's Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Blanking of Eastern Connecticut State

Boxscore
(box score)

Freshman Max Reid (Munich, Germany) scored twice, sophomore Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) and Ross Staudt (Marlton, NJ) each had two assists and Widener dominated things in a 3-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State in Swarthmore, PA.

Widener controlled play most of the contest and did not take long scoring, getting a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Remondelli had the ball on the left side and fed a great pass in the box to Reid, who put a quick touch on it for the only goal the Pride would need.

Things really began to click in the second half. It started in the 54th minute when Staudt had the ball near the right sideline and booted a pass up top to junior Troy Czapor (Richboro, PA), who struck one home from 15 yards for his seventh career goal.

Six minutes later, the Pride scored on a beautiful goal for the finale. Staudt kicked the ball near the box, Remondelli flicked it toward the left post and Reid had a great one-touch past Greg Walton.

Reid totaled three shots, Czapor and Cody Schulte (White Hall, MD) had two each and fellow senior Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) again controlled play on defense even though he only had to make one save.

Mitch Power attempted three shots and Walton totaled one save for the Warriors (0-1).

The win gives Widener its first 2-0 start since 2010 and marks the first time it opened a season with two shutout victories since 2007. The Pride began play Friday with a 2-0 triumph over Penn State Altoona.

Widener is home Wednesday vs. Ursinus, starting at 7:30 pm.
