Kate Dellinger Named Second Team Academic All-American For Women's Basketball

Widener junior guard Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) added one of the most prestigious honors to her trophy case as she was named Capital One CoSIDA second team Academic All-America for women's basketball.

Dellinger becomes the 45th Academic All-America in Widener's storied history and the team's second, joining third-team pick Joyce Johnson from 1999.  Dellinger is the first honoree at Widener since Matt Sosna was tabbed second team for men's basketball in 2009.

One of the school's hardest working and most determined student-athletes, Dellinger this season has put forth another strong campaign.  She is 46th in the country with 3.0 steals per contest, third in the Commonwealth Conference with 14.4 points per game, sixth with 7.5 rebounds per contest, 15th with 2.2 assists per game, 12th with a .727 free throw percentage and 10th with a .301 three-point percentage.

Dellinger has scored at least 20 points five times this season and has six double-doubles.  This includes a career-best 31 points to go with 11 rebounds December 10 at Eastern.  Dellinger has 14 double-doubles in her career.

Dellinger sports a 3.986 GPA in Physical Therapy and has notched a 4.0 GPA in three of her five semesters at Widener.

Last season, Dellinger was picked first team all-conference, second team All-ECAC South Region, second team Academic All-District and was a member of the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team.  She led the Pride with 17.1 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per contest, 40 steals and an .820 free throw percentage, but did not qualify for the league leaders due to injury.

Widener (17-8, 10-4 CC) is in the conference tournament a fifth straight season in a campaign in which it posted two five-game winning streaks, the latter topped February 14 with a 65-54 upset of No. 15 Lebanon Valley.

The Pride are the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament and will visit second-seeded Messiah in the semifinals for the fifth time in as many campaigns.  Tip-off on Wednesday in Grantham, PA is 6:00 pm.
