Ten-Goal Second Quarter Paves the Way For Men's Lacrosse to a 24-5 Win Over Misericordia

Sophomore Josh Fox (Wynnewood, PA) scored four of his season-high five goals in the second quarter, when Widener erupted for 10 in a 24-5 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Misericordia at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
 
Fox's work helped the Pride open a 14-2 halftime lead courtesy of an 18-2 shots edge in the second quarter and 29-10 in the opening half. The defense also came to play by holding the Cougars off the scoreboard for 20 minutes, 38 seconds spanning the first and third quarters for Widener's third straight win.
 
Junior Whitney Bruemmer (Southampton, PA) scored four goals with freshman Robert Clemens (Aston, PA), sophomore Johnny Casey (Glenside, PA), senior JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) and sophomore Charlie Bytheway (Glen Mills, PA) getting two apiece for the Pride.
 
Clemens and junior Michael Bassani (Califon, NJ) notched three assists apiece and the combination of sophomore Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA), freshman Mac Nestler (Chatham, NJ) and junior Tommy Hoopes (West Chester, PA) made eight saves. Freshman Craig Hunsberger (Perkasie, PA) won 18-of-28 face-offs for Widener (5-2, 3-0 MAC).
 
Lee Blair scored twice with J.R. Lauri, Nicholas Santillo and Andrew Bath adding one each for Misericordia (6-3, 2-2). Ryan Kay made five saves in 30 minutes.
 
Widener fell three goals shy of tying the school record of 27, set April 21, 1997 against Stevens Tech and equaled April 15, 2003 against DeSales.
 
Widener on Wednesday hosts Manhattanville, beginning at 7:00 pm.
