YORK, Pa. (May 4, 2017) - The Widener University baseball team fell to Arcadia, 7-3, on Thursday evening in MAC Commonwealth Tournament action as their late comeback was not enough to defeat the Knights early six-run inning.
Arcadia got on the board first in the second frame with a homerun from Sean Carew to put them ahead 3-0. The Knights then closed out the inning with another three runs to give them the 6-0 lead.
The Pride did not let down and began to cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning when senior
Bob Barnett advanced home on a fielder's choice. With junior pitcher Kyle Lafferty regaining his composure, Widener was able to tack on two more consecutive runs in the sixth and seventh frames while blanking Arcadia. Junior

Widener had opportunities up until the last inning, however, they were not able to capitalize and Arcadia walked away with the 7-3 victory.
Joseph Warren picked up the victory on the mound for the Knights. He pitched five and one-thirds innings, surrendered four hits, two runs, struck out four and issued one walk. Lafferty suffered the loss by pitching six and one-thirds innings, surrendering ten hits and seven runs. He struck out four and issued one walk.
Widener will be back in action on Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. as they take on Lebanon Valley in game three of the MAC Comomonwealth Baseball Tournament at PeoplesBank Park.
