Track & Field Takes Part in Penn Relays

(results)

Widener's women's track & field team took part in the prestigious Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Sophomore Abby Schaffer (Easton, PA) closed seventh in the pole vault and top among Division III athletes at 3.81 meters.  This took place in a field where 30 of the 33 competitors were from Division I schools.

Schaffer is the reigning Middle Atlantic Conference champion in the indoor pole vault and closed second at this winter's NCAA Championships.  She will be one of the favorites during the MAC Outdoor Championships from May 6-8 at Widener.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team competed in the MAC/Centennial race, closing in 4:09.91.  The squad consisted of freshman Darcela Llanos (Abington, PA), junior Valisha Andrus (Pemberton, NJ), sophomore Emilie Keane (Haddonfield, NJ) and freshman Bilikisu Adeyemi (North Bethesda, MD).

Widener on Friday will send more competitors to the Penn Relays.  The team competes as a whole Saturday at the Lions' Invitational in Ewing, NJ.
